Fill/Stroke Editor - Pattern Fill

The Pattern Fill allows you to apply a repeating pattern to a vector object. You can select the background of the fill for different effects.

Applying a Pattern Fill

  • Select the object you want to apply Pattern Fill to.
  • In the Fill/Stroke Editor, select Pattern Fill.

  • Selectpattern from the Pattern list.

  • Select a color from the Background Color list.

  • Select Advanced... to adjust a pattern's size, spacing, and positioning.

Using Pattern Fill Advanced Settings

When the Advanced button is clicked on the Fill/Stroke Editor - Fill tab for Pattern Fill, the Advanced Settings dialog box will be displayed. This allows you to customize or even create your own Pattern fills.

To adjust a pattern's size, spacing, and positioning, select Pattern Fill and click Advanced.

To create a new pattern, you can select any object, right click the swatch table, and then "Define Pattern." It will then be added to the swatch table.

You can adjust the following parameters. Then click OK to save your changes.

mceclip12.png Changes the name of the pattern.
mceclip9.png Sets the background color.
mceclip14.png Specifies the width of each tile in the pattern.
mceclip10.png Specifies the height of each tile in the pattern.
mceclip11.png When checked, ensures that the pattern will be resized proportionally.
mceclip13.png Sets the spacing between pattern rows.
mceclip15.png Sets the spacing between pattern columns.
mceclip16.png Specifies the percentage of shift for each row and column in the pattern.
mceclip17.png Specifies the amount of horizontal and vertical offset applied to the first tile in the pattern.

When checked, adds the edited pattern to the swatch table as a new pattern. You will be asked which swatch table you wish to save it to.

Determines whether the pattern will be repeated when resized or stretched with the object.
